Reccommended Mailing Lists

Most activist and medical news breaks on mailing lists these days. Printed magazines (like Interaction and Perspectives in the UK, or The CFIDS Chronicle in America) then run selected stories in their next issue. If you want to get the raw, unedited news live as it happens (albeit along with a fair measure of activists' personal rants and other twaddle), then you have to be not only online, but on the major mailing lists. So here they are:

1. Co-Cure
   This is the premier international list for medical and activist news. Only serious posts are accepted - the list is premoderated. It's not a discussion list, more of a 'noticeboard'. A bit dry perhaps, but even The Weasel himself found it necessary to be on Co-Cure to keep track of events. To sample Co-Cure's news, take a look at their issue boards by clicking here.

2. CFS-NEWS
   This is one of very few yankee lists worth being on, because it too is not a discussion list, and the news is both fresh and detailed. It is run by an American activist called Roger Burns. To sample Roger's latest news, click here .

3. Shoot-out at the OK Corral
   This title just about sums up most American lists, as US activists are so concerned with apportioning the credit for past achievements that present and future issues take second place to their egos. Fortunately, there is one exception: the 'Unify' list was set up to unite disparate activists and all CIND conditions (Chronic Neurological and Immunological Disorders) under a single banner. The Unify list is premoderated and many of the posts it carries are newsworthy in an international sense.

4. Mary Schweitzer's Lists
   Mary Schweitzer is an American dynamo-activist who has made more impact online than any other one individual. She can be very temperamental, but this probably applies to anyone who has ever done so very much all by themself. Mary runs a friendly and informative discussion and chat list called Sassyfras that has a truly international flavour.

5. UK Lists
